3 Quick Ways to Cowgirl Up an Outfit.

You’re looking at your invitation to a “western” theme party. Aghhh! What do you wear?

First of all, relax. I mean relax your outfit.  Cowgirl style is all about the relaxed easy-going look. Now walk, don’t run to your closet.

Pull out your favorite pair of jeans.  If you have a couple of styles- boot cut, straight leg, jeggings- get them all out. Then pick out a top to wear with them.  You can tuck it in or leave it out, whichever looks best on you.

Lace, plaid, cotton print can all work with this look. Graphic tees are popular right now.

Now let’s COWGIRL UP.

Step 1-Shoes

Of course, a western boot is the most popular footwear for a cowgirl.  But don’t overlook some of the western style shooties.  They can be low or high heeled and round, pointed or square toed.  The options are limitless.

Step 2-Belt

This accessory is going to depend on your figure type.  A low-slung wide belt worn over a top can conceal a tummy.

If you’re tucking in a top, a belt that fits through your jean loops works well.

A belt can have a narrowing effect when you are pairing your top with a cardigan, vest, or jacket.  It helps draw the eye towards the center.

When you are layering a belt on top, be careful.  I have made the mistake of wearing a belt that only has a hook to keep it secure.  When a belt doesn’t go through the loops of your pants it can end up on the floor.  In my case, I was using a “porta-potty”, not my favorite, and my belt unhooked at the worst moment.  I didn’t think my reactions were that fast anymore.  But I saved it.  If I hadn’t I would have said “adios” to that belt.

Step 3- Jewelry

Silver and turquoise just screams western.  Even when pairing with a plain white button-up, there is no classier look.

Most of all the cowgirl look is an attitude.  Relax and have fun at your next western soiree.
