DIY Rustic Western Buckle Display-

I love finding new ways to make rustic western accents in my home.  I know quite a few rodeo families that have their hard-won trophy buckles tucked away in a box somewhere and not on display.  Here’s a way to get them out and enjoy the fruits of your labor. I think this idea from Jamie Bailey works great because you can grab a buckle and slip it on your belt.

 

 

Even if you don’t have your own trophy buckles, you can often find some in local pawn shops or on-line auctions or even Wal-Mart.

I started by painting my wall, for the buckle display, on the bottom 1/3 (on my 10 fit wall, I painted up 42 inches) a palomino tan.

Next I measured each length needed and cut a 1.5 inch baseboard moulding strip to fit.  These can be pieced together since they will be mostly covered. I stained the strips in Minwax provincial oak. I measured every 3 feet  and used a level to draw a straight line. The moulding was tacked to the wall using 1” finishing nails  being careful to keep them level.

I added .5-in x 96-in pine quarter round, also stained, to the border both sides of the wood moulding strip.

Tandy leather carries leather tooled belt blanks that I stained with leather stain and then  glued into the strips using liquid nail. I left the end unglued so that I could take buckle off the wall if needed and then after placing the buckles tacked the leather ends in place with finish nails. However, you could cut the snap end off of the belts, thread the buckles onto the leather and permanently attach the leather to the center of the moulding with the liquid nail. Space the buckle proportional to your wall length.
